Hi Leo,
I’m very interested in your “talky” GPS project. I’m also involved with high power rocketry and ham radio in the US and I’d like to be able to simulate your success. As you stated, APRS is somewhat limited. Are further details pertaining to your project available? I appreciate your consideration.
Thanks,

Hi Alex,
I contacted Leo via email a couple of years ago. I was asking for advice on the software/programming used for the synthesized voice reporting at the time, but it appeared to be proprietary info. Have you tried to contact Leo directly about his gps set up? In the interim, I’m using Byonics units which are 2 watt 2 meter GPS ensembles with a Kenwood DH7 connected to a Garmin. This set up works well (minus the voice). You may want to review the Medtronics Kate unit (https://www.multitronix.com/kate-2-transmitter.html) which is probably the best and most reliable unit available. On that page, click on “flights” and see the youtube videos of a 142,000 foot 2 stage launch. One caveat, the Kate is expensive.
Let me know what you decide upon and where and what type of rockets you launch.

Fred
